Let’s get to know each other better!
Like I said, I’m Jen Moff. Friends call me THE Jen Moff. Yeah, they sometimes do. Haha. Makes me smile and laugh. I’m a light touch, what can I say, haha.
I am a speaker and author, mindset mentor, retreat facilitator, and creative consultant for single, successful entrepreneurial women. I’m also the founder of Magical Mindfulness LLC and the creative genius behind our subbrands, Magical Mindfulness Consulting and Magical Mindfulness Retreats.
I’m here to help you have a business and life that is uniquely you so that years from now you’ll look back incredibly satisfied!
How do I do that you ask? Great question!
Well, I do have the credentials, if that is important to you…(flips open my portfolio dramatically)…
- Bachelors of Fine Arts in Communication and Public Relations
- Studied and worked professionally as an actor focusing on the theater and improvisation
- Certification in Leadership Communication from Santa Fe College
- Certified Relationship Specialist designation from the American Psychotherapy Association
- Certified in the Sacred DNA Activation and Restructure Method
- Currently in my fourth year of the Human Design Experiment
But you and I both know that that stuff isn’t what truly matters. It’s about results and relationships. Sure I’ve learned a lot. I’ve also learned a shit ton from all the experiences in my life which have led me to you and you to me. Here, take a gander at the highlight reel of my life…
- Purple hair (sometimes)
- Quirky shoes
- 1 cup on-point comedic timing
- 1 cup intuition
- 1 cup straight-shooting teacher
- ½ cup Foodie
- ¼ cup Glam fan
- Compassion to taste
Oh man, how did this recipe card get here? My inner foodie must be craving something. Ha! Oh well, I’m sure it has its reason. All part of the divine timing. Anyway, here is what you were actually looking for…
I was born in Baltimore, Maryland. My parents close family friends had a golden retriever named Buffy who taught me to walk. Aka… she let me pull on her fur to help me stand up. That dog had the temperament and patience of an angel.
The summer between 7th and 8th grade sent me to Camp Timber Ridge near Atlanta, Ga for a week. I got to make friends and swim and be in a play (my only line was "Who invited her?" as a guest at the royal ball in the play Cinderella) and try bug juice and participate in a ropes course. I learned two very important things. 1. I'm not about that camping life. 2. Acting was amazing and I was hooked.
Over the summer I had what would later be called a "glow up" getting my braces off and swapping my glasses for contacts during the summer. Hello, 8th grade! First boyfriend; first heartbreak.
First time getting cast in a play at school; this part was dope. The fall show was The Beverly Hillbillies. I played one of Jethro's girlfriends. The following spring we did a show (can't remember the name) where I got to play multiple parts because it was lots of fairy tales, and myths and fables put together.
Decided before graduation that I wanted to become a professional actor. I received a scholarship for acting and was accepted to the only accredited theater arts school in the state of GA at the time, Valdosta State University.
To celebrate, my parents took my sister and me to England and France for two weeks. I got to practice mon francais avec natives and fell in love with travel!
That fall college started. To say I struggled is an understatement. Lost my virginity at the hands of someone I thought I could trust. The trauma led me to completely checking out of school and I earned a 0.0 GPA for the semester.
Over the last five years, I'd done my damnedest to figure shit out, pull myself up by my bootstraps, etc. I got cast in The Importance of Being Ernest playing Miss Prism right away. Auditioned for professional work. Was hired for summer stock work in North Carolina.
I took countless performing arts classes; voice and diction, hair and makeup, improvisation, movement, acting 101, armed stage combat, stage management, theater history, play analysis, etc.
But my GPA was looming over me, and I couldn't afford school. So I had to drop out and get a full-time job. That summer I also got into a new relationship.
I got a job working at Advantage Communications, an authorized retailer for Cingular (which would later become AT&T). I learned a lot so much about business. Scheduling, customer service, sales, grassroots marketing, event planning, project management, negotiations, P&L reports. I could go on.
I decided in 2008 I wanted to go back to school. So I did both, full-time. It was exhausting. But it was also a no-brainer. I wanted to own my own business as an event planner. I wanted the skills to do it.
In 2009 Advantage Communications was bought out by Direct Communications and I was promoted to Assistant Manager of two locations.
In 2011, Direct Communications was bought out by APEX Communications and I was promoted to Manager of both stores.
Early in 2011, before the company got purchased, I found myself at a crossroads. I was close to graduation. I was managing two stores. And that relationship was no longer aligned. It was abusive; emotional, psychological, sexual. Intimidation and isolation were commonplace. I had finally found the strength to end it.
In May, I graduated with a BFA in Communication and Public Relations ready to take on the world.
The rest of the year I found myself romantically entangled with another stress-inducing person. Which "ironically" (I use quotes there because I know now that nothing is by coincidence) led me to have the first of many highly spiritual experiences. My eyes were opened and I couldn't go back to the way I lived before.
In early 2012, I relocated to manage the companies newest acquisition, which would be our flagship store. I was working by day like a zombie. I was going through a dark night of the soul and existential crisis that stemmed from the late 2011 awakening. I was deeply depressed and lost. Turning 30 had nothing to do with it.
That summer, as I sunbathed on my back porch on the fourth of July, I suddenly heard the phrase “You are going to take over Tony Robbins job.” I couldn't shake it. I knew things had to change. I gave my notice and began packing up my apartment.
I moved to Florida to live with my parents in their new 55+ retirement community. No plan. No job. No savings. So glamorous.
I applied for jobs, but I was way overqualified for the area. So I never heard back. I had no idea what to do except to get back into the theater. It was the best thing I could have done for my confidence and soul.
I continued doing community theater while networking and job searching. I eventually got a job making 30K in Recruiting (it was the most I'd ever made and was thrilled to bits).
It was at one of these networking events that I decided to start a speaking and writing business; claiming the role of entrepreneur and standing up for myself to loved ones who didn't understand.
I relocated and moved into my own apartment for the first time in a year. I was feeling so excited and hopeful. To say I was happy is kinda an understatement.
Later that year, I earned a certificate in Communication Leadership from Santa Fe College. I co-founded The #BeMindFULL Movement with a colleague. I was asked to serve on a Board of Directors and accepted.
Then the company I worked for made some changes and closed their doors.
I learned a great deal this year.
I started contracting with a company that served the tech and hospitality industry doing training and live support. I traveled all over North America, sometimes at the drop of a hat and with very little information.
I realized this would help me in a couple of ways as I built my business. 1. I'd see what it's like to pay my own taxes. 2. I'd see how I liked traveling a lot for speaking gigs. 3. It showed me how to better budget and manage my income as it wasn't consistent.
At the same time, I began offering coaching services to clients, developed a meditation album, and participated in a 24-hour play festival!
On the road again...
I met a man who showed me what a good relationship can look like. I was respected. I felt both safe and free simultaneously. I was adored for who I was; all of me. And oh did he make me laugh.
Throughout the year many things happened: I got a Certified Relationship Specialist designation from the American Psychotherapy Association, I purchased my first coaching session from someone else (had a lot to work through to do that), and I started the Intuitive Women's Mastermind.
Stretching my legs, I signed up for my first group coaching program (this time a 4 figure investment, stretching myself again).
I booked my first speaking gig, I was stoked. But unfortunately, just before my 34th birthday in May, my 15-year old cat, Cow, got sick with Lymphoma. He crossed the rainbow bridge on July 12th.
He taught me a lot through his passing. Personally, I learned how important self-care was. Professionally, I learned I needed to me-proof my business.
Later in the year I planned and facilitated a retreat for the board I served on and developed and sold my first group coaching program.
2017 was big.
I was still coaching my clients while on the road freelance contracting. I hired a coach to work with for the entire year. I planned and facilitated the IWM mastermind retreat in the North Georgia mountains.
Over the summer I paid down $10K in credit card debt.
Though I didn't anticipate working for a company again, I manifested a job at an up-and-coming tech start-up in Boston as one of their corporate trainers.
In December I'd signed my lease and had packed up the moving truck, feeling so confident and excited for the future.
As a bonus to this fab year, I discovered I'd hit 6 figures annually for the first time. It felt wild and amazing. All my personal and spiritual development was paying off.
Since the previous year went so well, I thought, well let's keep working with that same coach for another year!
I’m a published author!!! The Mindful Life Map is on Amazon.
I decided after almost a year, that my skillset (and soul) would be better served if I went back to working for myself full-time.
I began doing freelance training for local companies in Boston to get me out of the house, to network, and to support other businesses/organizations that I felt pulled towards.
Getting the hit that I wanted to level up my coaching business, I hired an additional coach towards the end of the year, investing every dime I had in my bank account to work with her. Within a week, I'd made that exact amount back in full. Miracles abound.
Hitting my first five-figure month in May, I felt on top of the world. I can still remember how it felt. I became certified in the Sacred DNA Activation and Restructure Method in June; this modality was responsible for a lot of my progress, and I couldn’t wait to offer it to my clients. I launched and ran the first Everything’s Relational Retreat in Boston in September. I traveled to Greece for a women’s mastermind immediately after. I surprised my sister and her fam for Halloween. And I hit my first multiple five-figure day in closed sales that December. It was a full year of quantum leaping!
Like I'm sure it did for you, 2020 seemed to fly by and yet crawl.
I planned and then had to pause the second Everything’s Relational Retreat to Hawaii due to Covid. I decided to lean back from my business to reconnect to myself and what I wanted. I saw that I wanted to have even more fun and play in my life, so I pitched the idea of a comedy podcast to my friend Matt and by the beginning of October, Funny Business As Usual was live!
I redecorated my living room to support another uplevel. I started working with a new trauma-informed therapist who is fantastic, and I can see the impact in my business and relationships. Look out world!
So far…the time leaning back has helped inform the direction I want to take my business endeavors tremendously. Here are a few:
I officially launched the Magical Mindfulness Retreats brand, and the Everything's Relational Retreat is headed to Hawaii's Big Island this September.
I’ve begun working on my second book, a memoir.
I Iaunched Idea Jen sessions after realizing how much I enjoy brainstorming and getting super creative.
I pioneered ‘The Embodiment Method’, my signature framework combining my background as an actor, my small business savvy, and my deep understanding of spiritual and energetic principles.
Here are Five Fun Facts about Moi!
1. I’m a Taurus Sun, Capricorn Moon, and Sagittarius Rising
2. In Enneagram, I’m an 8 wing 7; “The Maverick”
3. I vacillate between an INFJ and ENFP in Myers Briggs. The NF never changes but I flip flop on the I/E and J/P.
4. In Human Design, I am a 3/5 Pure Generator with an open spleen and RLRR. Check out myhumandesign.com to get your free chart (Jen uses it with all her private clients).
5. My love languages are words of affirmation and quality time. My language of apology is to genuinely repent.
- Mindfulness empowers – owning my abilities, gifts, and voice to create without judgment allows me to embody my highest potential; accomplishing and actualizing my dreams.
- Our freak flags were meant to fly – both the messy and the marvelous parts of me are welcome at all times. It’s safe to be fully seen.
- In letting the fun in – be playful, feel energized, laugh uncontrollably. I only pursue what is fun. My experience is guided by expansion. My life is meant to be amazing.
- In conscious communication – speak and write with assertiveness, transparency, and kindness. Speaking our truth, wants, needs, and desires are the most supportive things we can do.
- Give myself love, care, and acceptance – listen to my body and tune in to my needs, then give them to myself without apology.
- Stay curious – ask questions. Understand how and why things are the way they are, how they fit into larger systems; how those pieces of the puzzle fit together. Claim my truth as it evolves.
- Freedom to be, do and have it all – what lights me up inside, the things, people, and ideas that make me squeal with delight are meant for me. No questions. The end.
- Challenge the forces of power and control – the patriarchy, unchecked capitalism, intimate relationship abuse, bullying bosses, and/or religious dogma. Equity and equality are the way forward.
- Pleasure and play win the day – fun and joy are essential to manifestation and transformation. I give myself whatever I want and need regardless because I am always worthy, lovable, and valuable.
- Courage and inner strength are part of success – fear isn’t real. Failure doesn’t exist. The former is merely a sign we are growing out of our velvet rut. The latter is a lesson and guide.
- Inspired action trumps hustle – My spiritual path guides all that I do or choose not to do. End of story. Let my higher self via my Human Design be my guide so I live and work from overflow.
- Everything is connected on an energetic level – Science and spirituality go together like peanut butter and jelly. Our actions, thoughts, and words have a ripple effect on our life as well as those around us.
Well, I think that just about covers it
Wait, what? You have five questions for me? Lightning round style? I’m game, shoot!
YOU: What did you want to be when you grew up?
Me: I don’t remember anyone asking me that question as a kid, but I do remember career day in middle school. I was allowed to pick three jobs to visit. I visited the actor, the business owner, and the teacher.
You: What is one of your guilty pleasures?
Me: Only one! Shit. Ummm. Watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
You: Do you collect anything?
Me: A few things. Pressed pennies, cards/notes people give me, and books.
You: What would I be most surprised to see on/in your desk?
Me: Prolly a tiny glass sculpture I got when I was in Italy in 2002. It’s a gondolier paddling in his boat mid-stroke. It’s broken countless times. Last time I put him back together with nail glue.
You: As a foodie, can you even pick a favorite food?
Me: I can always have Japanese hibachi. Classic.
That was fun! I’m so glad we did this. I can’t wait to hang again soon. And don’t forget to check out the START HERE page (I know we are besties now, but I just want to make sure you’ve got all the info and resources and freebies and articles you need). That’s the place to start.
